RealSports Football on the Atari 2600 is about as close to a full football game as you could get back in the day. You’ve got that classic top-down view where the screen awkwardly jerks around to follow the ball—it’s charming in a "wait, where did my players go?" kind of way. Pick your plays from a surprisingly decent selection (for the time), then mash buttons to either throw a wobbly pass or try to dodge pixelated defenders. The computer opponent isn’t exactly a genius, but crank up the difficulty and it’ll at least put up a fight. Games are quick—just one quarter—so you can squeeze in a match between homework or whatever. It’s clunky, but weirdly satisfying when you pull off a touchdown.
