Game Overview
Blackthorne on the GBA is this gritty, moody action-platformer where you play as Kyle Blackthorne—basically a space-faring cowboy with a shotgun. The story’s straight out of an ‘80s sci-fi flick: evil warlord takes over your home planet, you get shipped off to Earth as a kid, and now you’re back for revenge. Classic.
Gameplay feels like a mix of Prince of Persia and Contra—lots of methodical platforming, maze-like levels, and tense shootouts where timing your shots matters more than spamming bullets. That pump-action shotgun has such a satisfying chunk-chunk reload sound, and you’ll need it against Sarlac’s goons. Sometimes you’re blowing up generators with dynamite, other times you’re backtracking for keys, but it never drags. Just don’t expect to rush through—this one rewards patience.
It’s got that old-school difficulty where enemies hit hard, but figuring out the right path or nailing a tricky jump feels legit rewarding. The pixel art still holds up too, all shadowy corridors and alien landscapes. If you like your action games with a side of atmosphere, this is a solid pick.
