Game Overview

Blackthorne on SNES is one of those games that sticks with you—partly because of its moody atmosphere, partly because you spend half your time blasting monsters with a shotgun while looking like a 90s action hero. You play as Kyle Blackthorne, a guy who grew up on Earth but has to return to his home planet to kick some evil overlord butt. The setup feels like a gritty sci-fi western, and the gameplay totally leans into that.

It plays like a mix of Prince of Persia and a shootout—lots of climbing, sneaky platforming, and tense standoffs where you and an enemy both whip out shotguns at the same time (you can duck behind cover at the last second if you’re quick). The levels are these maze-like fortresses where you’re always hunting for keys or figuring out which generator to blow up next. And yeah, you get upgrades—nothing beats the feeling of finding a better shotgun after struggling with the basic one for ages.

It’s got that classic "tough but fair" SNES difficulty—you’ll die a bunch, but it never feels cheap. Just make sure you save those bombs for when you really need them.
