Play Bleach - The 3rd Phantom Online

Bleach: The 3rd Phantom came out on the Nintendo DS in 2008, developed by Tom Create. It was part of that wave of mid-2000s anime games that tried to do something a little different, moving away from pure arena fighters into something with more tactical depth. It didn't get a huge amount of attention at the time, but it found its audience among players looking for a strategy RPG that actually used the Bleach setting thoughtfully.

You start by choosing to play as either a brother or sister, a pair of original twins, and then you assemble a squad from the huge cast of Soul Reaper captains and lieutenants. The core of the game is grid-based tactical combat where positioning and character affinity really matter; letting your units support each other in battle is often the difference between winning a fight and getting completely overwhelmed. Outside of battles, you manage a calendar system, deciding how to spend your limited days training stats, building relationships for combo bonuses, or investigating optional events. The pacing is deliberate, and some of the later missions can be punishing if you haven't prepared your team properly. It feels like a solid, thoughtful strategy game that just happens to be dressed in Bleach's aesthetic.
