Blue's Journey, also known as Raguy, came out in arcades in 1990 from developer ADK. It's a side-scrolling platformer from that era when games were experimenting with more colorful, cartoonish styles and inventive mechanics, standing out with its elastic protagonist and environmental interactions.
You control Blue, a small, blue creature with stretchable arms that let you swing across gaps, punch enemies, and grab items. The goal is to rescue your kidnapped girlfriend by navigating through numerous interconnected screens, each filled with obstacles and foes. Key mechanics include bouncing on mushrooms to gain height, picking up and throwing objects like apples (which can crush enemies if they roll downhill), and transforming into a bouncing ball to access hidden areas. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly, especially when dealing with screen-filling hazards or precise platforming demands. It feels satisfying to master the stretchy movement and use the environment cleverly against enemies.
