Bokujou Monogatari GB2 (or Harvest Moon 2 if you're playing the English fan translation) is that cozy little farming sim that somehow makes watering turnips at 6 AM feel weirdly satisfying. You start with a run-down farm and three years to turn it into something profitable—which sounds easy until you realize how slow time moves when you're waiting for your first crop of potatoes to grow.

What I love about this one compared to the first GBC game is the option to play as a girl (finally!) and the fact your farm actually has neighbors nearby instead of feeling like you're stranded in the middle of nowhere. The sprites are tiny but charming, and there's something oddly addictive about the grind—wake up, water plants, maybe chat with the grumpy blacksmith, repeat. By winter you'll be obsessively planning next year's crop rotation like some kind of pixelated agricultural mastermind.

It's janky in that classic Game Boy Color way, but if you're into old-school Harvest Moon, this one holds up better than you'd expect.
