Bolt for the Nintendo DS came out in 2008 from Disney Interactive Studios, a time when licensed games were a common sight on the handheld. It was based on the animated film, fitting right in with other platformers and adventures that tried to capture a movie's story.
You control Bolt, a dog who believes his on-screen superpowers are real. You use his bark to shatter certain walls and his laser vision to zap enemies and solve simple environmental puzzles. The main goal is to find and rescue Penny, which involves navigating through city streets, industrial areas, and other linear levels. The game occasionally switches to controlling Penny herself for slower, stealth-based sections where you must avoid guards. The pacing is straightforward, and the difficulty is generally mild, making it accessible. It feels like a simple, competent adventure that gets the job done without overstaying its welcome.
