Game Overview

Bram Stoker's Dracula on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System came out in 1993, developed by Psygnosis. It was one of those licensed games from the era that tried to do something a little different, leaning into the horror atmosphere instead of just being another action platformer. The graphics and music really worked to sell the gothic setting, which was a nice change of pace on the SNES.

You control Professor Van Helsing, moving through side scrolling levels and castle interiors to hunt down Dracula. The main goal is straightforward: find and defeat the Count. You use a whip for most combat, which feels solid, and you can also collect secondary weapons like throwing knives or holy water. The levels are filled with enemies like rats, zombies, and of course, vampires that require a stake to finish off for good. The pacing is deliberate, sometimes a bit slow, and the difficulty can spike in certain areas. Playing it feels like a methodical hunt through a dangerous, shadow filled world.
