Brave on the DS is one of those games that sneaks up on you—at first glance, it seems like a straightforward action-adventure, but there’s a surprising amount of strategy tucked into those pixelated dungeons. You’re not just hacking through enemies; you’re timing dodges, figuring out environmental puzzles, and occasionally backtracking because you missed a hidden switch. The art style’s got this moody, almost hand-drawn look, especially in the darker caves where torches flicker and shadows stretch.
What I like is how the game doesn’t hold your hand. Early on, you’ll hit a boss that feels impossible until you realize you can knock loose stalactites onto its head. Little moments like that make it satisfying, even when you’re retrying the same fight for the tenth time. The soundtrack’s solid too—haunting flutes when you’re exploring ruins, frantic strings when skeletons ambush you. It’s not perfect (the camera angles can be awkward in tight spaces), but it’s got way more personality than most DS games in this genre.
