Brix came out in 1989 as an arcade game by Andreas Kemnitz, a time when simple, addictive concepts ruled the cabinets. It didn't try to be the flashiest game on the block, but it had a clear, focused idea that pulled you in for just one more credit. You were there to stack blocks, and the machine was there to make you fail.
You control a paddle at the bottom of the screen, catching colored blocks that fall from the top. Your main goal is to stack these blocks neatly to form complete horizontal lines, which then vanish and give you points. The signature mechanics are the increasing speed of the falling blocks and the need for precise placement; a messy stack will quickly become unstable and collapse. The pacing is relentless, forcing quick decisions as the playfield gets more chaotic. It feels like a constant, tense race against your own growing pile of mistakes.
