You pick from four martial arts—kendo, bojutsu, nunchaku, or karate—and each one changes how you move, block, and attack. The first time I tried nunchaku, I got wrecked because I kept whiffing spins, but once you get the timing down, landing a full combo feels amazing.
It’s got this great old-school tournament vibe, complete with a stern referee who yells "Hajime!" before every match. The sprites are chunky but full of personality, especially when you pull off a well-timed counter or see your opponent’s gi get torn up mid-fight. And that soundtrack? Pure 80s martial arts flick energy—you’ll catch yourself humming the dojo theme later.
It’s not the flashiest fighter out there, but there’s something satisfying about how deliberate the combat feels. You can’t just spam kicks and hope for the best. If you miss a block or overcommit to an attack, you’re eating a bamboo sword to the face. Still holds up if you’re into methodical, slightly janky retro brawlers.
