1989 martial arts simulation featuring Karate, Kendo, Nunchaku, and Bo staff combat. Manage Ki and stamina in strategic battles. Includes training, sparring, and tournament modes. Released for Amiga.
Budokan: The Martial Spirit is one of those Amiga games that actually makes you feel like you're learning martial arts—or at least pretending to. You pick between karate, kendo, nunchaku, or bo staff combat, and each one handles completely differently. The karate moves are all about timing, while the nunchaku feels wild and unpredictable (just like real life, I imagine).
What’s cool—and kind of brutal—is that every move costs you Ki, even if you whiff it completely. So button-mashing? Yeah, that’ll leave you gasping on the floor. You’ve got to actually think about spacing, stamina, and when to go for a big hit. The instructors in practice mode don’t hold back either—I got wrecked by the kendo teacher more times than I’d like to admit.
Once you’re confident (or just stubborn), you can head to the Budokan tournament and see if you’ve got what it takes. Spoiler: You probably don’t at first. But that’s half the fun.
