Burger Time came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985, developed and published by Data East. It was one of those early arcade-style games that felt right at home on the NES, simple in concept but tough to put down. You don't see many games about cooking under pressure like this one.

You control Chef Peter Pepper, a little guy in a white hat, and your job is to build burgers by walking over the ingredients scattered across multi-level platforms. Each time you step on a burger part, like a patty or a bun, it drops down one level; complete all the burgers on a stage to move on. You can't fight the enemies directly, so you either drop ingredients on them to temporarily stun them or use your limited supply of pepper to spray them away. The pacing is relentless, with pickles, hot dogs, and eggs closing in from all sides, and the difficulty ramps up quickly. It feels tense and clever, like you're always just a step ahead of disaster.
