Burning Fight came out for the Neo Geo in 1991, developed by SNK. It was one of many side-scrolling beat 'em ups of the era, but it stood out for its urban Japanese setting and rough-edged style. The game doesn't try to reinvent the genre; it just drops you into a world of street brawls and criminal underworlds.
You control one of three characters, a detective or his two allies, fighting through screen after screen of thugs. The main goal is to clear each area of enemies, moving left to right until you reach a boss. You punch, kick, and use special moves; you can also pick up weapons like pipes or knives. The pacing is fast, sometimes messy, with enemies swarming from all sides. It feels like a scrappy, unpredictable brawl from start to finish.
