Captain Planet and the Planeteers for the NES came out in 1991, developed by Chris Gray Enterprises. It was one of many licensed games on the system, based on the popular environmental cartoon, and it fit right in with the era's mix of platformers and action titles.
You control one of the five Planeteers, each with a unique elemental power like earth, wind, or fire, which you use to attack enemies and clear obstacles. The goal is to stop villains like Hoggish Greedly and Dr. Blight across several side-scrolling stages, fighting through polluted environments. The game uses screen-by-screen exploration, with some light puzzle solving and occasional vehicle sections. It can feel repetitive and is known for being quite difficult, with stiff controls and some frustrating enemy placement. Still, calling on Captain Planet for help during boss fights gives a small sense of reward after the struggle.
