Play Champions of Zulula Online
Command a misfit squad through brutal turn-based skirmishes where one wrong step means your archers get eaten by trolls—DOS-era tension at its finest.

Champions of Zulula is a turn-based tactical game from the MS-DOS era, released in 1990 by developer/publisher Impressions Games. It fits right in with the kind of thoughtful, grid-based strategy titles that were popular on the platform at the time, offering a no-frills approach to fantasy warfare without the flash of later releases.
You control a small party of adventurers, each with distinct abilities like fighters, archers, and mages, moving them across tiled battlefields in a series of linked scenarios. Your main goal is to outmaneuver and defeat enemy forces—goblins, trolls, and other fantasy staples—using careful positioning, ranged attacks, and magic. Key mechanics include line-of-sight considerations for ranged units, terrain advantages (like defensive bonuses on high ground), and limited-use special abilities that require strategic timing. The pacing is deliberate, almost chess-like, and the difficulty can be punishing; a single misplacement often leads to a character's quick demise. It feels tense and cerebral, rewarding patience and foresight over quick reflexes.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
