I picked up Colin McRae Rally for the Game Boy Color back in 2000, a Codemasters release that tried to bring a serious racing feel to the handheld. The small screen and limited hardware didn't stop it from trying to capture the essence of rally driving.

The main objective is to win championships by placing well across multiple races. Key mechanics include managing your car's damage, listening to your co-driver's pace notes call out upcoming turns, and adjusting your driving for changing weather conditions. The pace is demanding; one mistake can ruin a clean run, and the physics require careful throttle control. It feels tense and rewarding when you nail a tricky section without sliding off.
