Commando came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985, developed by Capcom. You play as a lone soldier, Super Joe, dropped into enemy territory with a simple goal: fight your way to the end.
You control Joe from an overhead perspective, moving upward through jungles, rivers, and enemy bases. Your main weapon is a machine gun with unlimited ammo, but you also get a limited supply of grenades for tougher enemies and bunkers. The screen scrolls automatically, pushing you forward into constant danger from soldiers, jeeps, and helicopters. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is steep, demanding quick reflexes and careful grenade management. It feels like a tense, non-stop push against overwhelming odds where every shot and explosion matters.
