Commando came out in 1985 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, published by Capcom. It was a straightforward arcade port for the PC, fitting right in with the run-and-gun action games of that era. You got exactly what you expected: a tough, no-frills shooter that demanded quick reflexes and a lot of patience.
You control a lone soldier fighting through enemy territory, moving upward on a forced-scrolling screen. Your main goal is to survive each stage, clearing out soldiers, tanks, and bunkers that block your path. You have a machine gun with unlimited ammo and a limited supply of grenades that clear the screen of smaller enemies. The pacing is relentless, with enemies swarming from all sides, and the difficulty spikes quickly, especially in later levels. It feels like a constant, frantic push against overwhelming odds, where every small advance is a victory.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
