Commando Raid came out in 1982 for the Atari 2600, published by Activision. It was one of those straightforward action games from the early console era, built around a simple but tense premise. You control a lone soldier manning an anti-aircraft gun at the bottom of the screen. Enemy helicopters fly in from the top, dropping paratroopers who try to invade your base. If any reach the ground, they advance toward your position, forcing you to switch between shooting aircraft and picking off soldiers on foot. The pacing is relentless; the sky fills up fast, and one missed shot can quickly lead to an overwhelming rush of enemies.
