Play River Raid Online
Dodge bridges and enemy fire as you speed down a twisting river, desperately grabbing fuel pods before your jet sputters out. The tighter the river gets, the harder it is to resist taking risky shots.
River Raid came out in 1982 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, published by Activision. It was one of those early action games that felt right at home on a computer, a straightforward arcade-style experience without a lot of fuss. You knew what you were getting, and that was part of its appeal.
You pilot a fighter jet along a narrow, scrolling river, constantly managing your fuel while shooting enemy helicopters, jets, and boats. The main goal is to fly as far upriver as possible, destroying targets and refueling at designated stations to stay alive. The river itself is the biggest obstacle; it twists unpredictably, forcing you to dodge bridges and canyon walls while under fire. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty ramps up quickly the farther you go. It feels tense and demanding, a pure test of reflexes and forward planning.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
