Game Overview
River Raid is one of those classic arcade shooters that somehow never gets old. You're flying a fighter jet down this winding river, dodging bridges and blasting enemy boats and helicopters before they take you out. The controls are dead simple—just throttle and fire—but the river gets narrower and the enemies more aggressive the further you go.
What I love is how tense it gets when your fuel starts running low. You’re forced to risk flying closer to enemy ships just to grab fuel pods, and one wrong move sends you crashing into the riverbanks. The MS-DOS version keeps that same tight, addictive gameplay from the original Atari 2600 release, though the colors are a bit sharper.
It’s the kind of game where you swear you’ll stop after one run, then suddenly realize you’ve been at it for an hour trying to beat your high score. Carol Shaw absolutely nailed the balance between simplicity and challenge.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
