Game Overview
So Congo’s Caper is this weird, kinda charming SNES platformer where you play as a monkey-turned-human (thanks to a magic ruby) trying to rescue his girlfriend from a demon kid. It’s the sequel to Joe & Mac, and yeah, it feels like it—same bouncy, slightly janky energy.
You’re mostly swinging a club at enemies, jumping between vines, and rolling down hills like some kind of primate Sonic. Get hit once, and you turn back into a regular monkey—another hit, and you’re dead. Rubies power you up, though, and if you grab enough, you briefly become Super Congo, which is exactly as ridiculous as it sounds. There’s also this weird slot machine minigame that pops up when you collect sapphires, because why not?
It’s not the smoothest platformer out there, but there’s something oddly fun about the chaos. Just don’t expect it to take itself seriously.
