Play Contact (J) Online
You play as a kid chatting with a professor inside the game while exploring a pixel world—mixing random junk into weird healing items and fighting monsters that look like walking food. The whole thing feels like the DS is whispering inside jokes to you.

Contact came out on the Nintendo DS in 2006, developed by Grasshopper Manufacture. It was part of that wave of quirky, experimental titles that really tried to use both screens and the touch interface in interesting ways, standing out from the more straightforward RPGs of the time.
You control a young boy who is guided by a professor living inside the DS itself; you explore a top-down world screen by screen, fighting monsters in simple real-time combat, and combining random items you find to create new gear or healing salves. The main goal is to repair the professor's ship, which involves a lot of talking to odd characters and delving into dungeons. The pacing is slow, almost methodical, and the combat isn't particularly deep, but the charm comes from the constant, strange dialogue between you and the professor. It feels less like you're playing a game and more like you're sharing a private, slightly surreal adventure with the console.
