You bounce between icy platforms as Hyou or Kiyu, sliding into enemies and figuring out how to thaw a kingdom stuck in endless winter—that snowman boss still gives me nightmares.
Coron Land is one of those weird little SNES gems that never made it outside Japan—which is a shame, because it’s got this quirky charm to it. You play as Hyou or Kiyu (I always picked Hyou because his blue outfit looked cooler) on a mission to return a stolen snow goddess statue. The whole kingdom’s stuck in eternal winter until you fix things, so no pressure.
The gameplay’s a mix of platforming and light puzzle-solving, with these floaty jumps that take a second to get used to. Some of the ice levels are brutal if you don’t time your slides right. And there’s this one boss fight against a giant snowman that’s equal parts ridiculous and weirdly tough. Definitely worth a try if you’re into obscure 16-bit action games.
