Cosmo Tank came out for the Game Boy in 1990, published by Atlus. It was one of those early portable titles that tried to do something a little different, blending top-down shooting with base defense in a sci-fi setting. At a time when many games stuck to simpler formulas, this one asked you to multitask under pressure.
You control a tank through maze-like alien corridors, clearing rooms screen by screen. Your main goal is to destroy the enemy mothership, but along the way you also have to defend your home base from attacks. The game mixes exploration with tense defensive phases; you collect power-ups for your weapons and must often rush back to protect your HQ. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty ramps up noticeably in later stages. It feels like a constant scramble between aggression and vigilance.
