Game Overview

Crazy Climber 2 came out in the arcades in 1988 from Nichibutsu, a follow-up to the quirky original that had you scaling buildings with two joysticks. It arrived late in the golden age of arcades, a time when cabinets were competing with home consoles by offering unique control schemes and punishing, repeat-friendly challenges. This one definitely fit that mold.

You control a climber ascending a series of tall buildings, managing each of his hands independently with two joysticks to grab onto windowsills and pull yourself up. Your main goal is simply to reach the top of each stage while avoiding a relentless barrage of obstacles dropped by residents; flowerpots fall from above, windows suddenly slide shut to crush your fingers, and birds dive bomb to knock you loose. The pace is frantic and the difficulty is unrelenting, demanding quick reflexes and careful coordination between both hands. It feels like a tense, absurd struggle against an entire city that wants you to fall.
