I first played Croc on the Game Boy Color back in 1999. It was developed by Argonaut Games, and it felt like a solid platformer for the handheld at the time. The game didn't try to reinvent the wheel, but it offered a decent adventure in an era when portable 3D-style games were still finding their footing.
You control Croc, a small crocodile, as you explore levels screen by screen, jumping across platforms and defeating enemies with a simple tail whip. The main goal is to rescue the Gobbos, little creatures hidden throughout each stage, while also collecting colored gems to unlock new areas. Some levels include swimming or mine cart sequences, which change the pace but can feel a bit awkward due to the controls. The difficulty is fair overall, with some tricky jumps and hidden paths to discover. It feels satisfying to slowly clear each world and see your progress add up.
