Game Overview

Cross Hunter: Treasure Hunter Version is one of those Game Boy Color games that somehow slipped under the radar—which is a shame, because it’s way more fun than it has any right to be. You play as this treasure hunter with a crossbow, creeping through ruins, dodging spike traps, and picking off enemies before they swarm you. The controls are surprisingly smooth for a GBC title, and the puzzles actually make you think instead of just mashing buttons.

At first, I thought it was just another Zelda clone, but the crossbow changes everything. You’ve got to line up shots carefully, conserve ammo, and sometimes just run like hell when skeletons start pouring out of the walls. The pixel art’s gorgeous too—some of those sunset-lit temples look like they’re pushing the hardware to its limits. And yeah, there’s treasure, but half the fun is figuring out how to even reach it without getting impaled.

If you’ve got a soft spot for retro adventures that don’t hold your hand, this one’s a blast. Just watch out for the booby traps—they’re mean.
