Crossed Swords came out in the arcades in 1991, developed by ADK. It was a Neo Geo title, so it had that sharp, colorful look that stood out next to a lot of other games at the time. You played as a knight on a quest, but the perspective was first-person, which wasn't common for action games back then. It felt like a mix of a fighting game and a dungeon crawler, something a little different from the usual side-scrolling beat 'em ups.

You control a knight who moves screen by screen through monster-filled halls. The main goal is to defeat the evil sorcerer, but you have to fight your way through his minions first. Combat happens in real time; you watch enemy silhouettes for their attack tells, then block or strike with your sword or bow. You collect gold from fallen foes to buy better armor and weapons between stages. The game moves at a deliberate pace, and the difficulty is pretty unforgiving if you mistime your defenses. It feels tense and strategic, like a series of quick duels where every move counts.
