Cyber-Lip is a 1990 arcade game from SNK, the same company that brought us Metal Slug and King of Fighters. It came out during a time when side scrolling shooters were everywhere, but this one had a particular sci fi edge that felt a bit different from the usual military or fantasy settings. You could tell it was trying to stand out in a crowded cabinet lineup.
You control a soldier fighting through a city overrun by hostile robots. Your main goal is to clear each screen of enemies before an elevator arrives to take you to the next, more difficult floor. Key mechanics include grabbing floating helper pods that give you temporary weapon upgrades, like spread shots or lasers, and managing a constantly draining energy bar that serves as both health and a timer for special attacks. The pacing is relentless; you are almost always moving upward, and the enemy density increases sharply. It feels like a desperate, non stop climb against an endless mechanical tide.
