Man, Daikoukai Jidai II is one of those SNES games that just swallows whole afternoons without you noticing. You start by picking your captain’s background—merchant, explorer, or straight-up pirate—and suddenly you’re staring at a map of the 16th-century world, trying to remember which ports actually want your cargo of spices or silks. (Spoiler: Lisbon never does.)
The sailing feels slow at first until you realize that’s the point—you’re watching storms roll in, rationing supplies, and praying you don’t run into some Dutch warship when all you’ve got is a leaky caravel. But when you finally upgrade to a galleon and start winning naval battles by actually aiming your broadsides? Chef’s kiss.
