Game Overview

Darius Twin came out for the Super Nintendo in 1991, developed and published by Taito. It was one of the earlier shoot 'em ups on the system, arriving at a time when the SNES was still building its library of action games. The game continued the series' tradition of horizontal shooting across multiple branching paths, with a visual style that took advantage of the console's capabilities.

You pilot the Silver Hawk spacecraft through seven selectable zones, battling robotic sea creatures inspired by marine life. Your main goal is to survive each stage, defeat the boss, and choose your next route from a branching map. Key mechanics include collecting power-ups to upgrade your main shot and missiles, as well as a screen-clearing bomb for tight situations. The pacing is methodical; enemy patterns require memorization, and the difficulty can feel punishing but fair. It feels satisfying to learn each stage, weave through dense bullet patterns, and finally take down a screen-filling boss.
