Game Overview

Demolition Man came out on the Sega Genesis in 1995, published by Acclaim Entertainment. It was part of that wave of movie tie-ins that tried to capture the feel of the film, in this case the sci-fi action flick with Stallone and Snipes. On the Genesis, it fit right in with other side-scrolling beat 'em ups, though it had its own take on the future.

You play as John Spartan, working through levels that mix platforming and combat. The main goal is to fight your way to the end of each stage, taking down gangs and eventually facing Simon Phoenix. You have a standard punch and kick, but you can also pick up different weapons dropped by enemies, like a pistol or a futuristic rifle. The levels sometimes switch to a driving section where you control a hovercar, shooting at pursuing vehicles. The pacing is fairly quick, though some enemy patterns can feel cheap. It feels like a straightforward, sometimes clunky brawler that relies on repetition to progress.
