Devilish came out for the Nintendo DS in 2005, developed by Starfish. It was part of that early wave of DS games that tried to do something a little different with the hardware, even if it wasn't a huge hit. It felt like a strange, almost forgotten experiment from a time when developers were still figuring out what the two screens could really do.
You control two separate paddles, one on each screen, to bounce a ball upward through a multi-level playing field. The main goal is to break all the blocks on a stage while dodging enemy projectiles and navigating environmental hazards. The signature mechanic is this constant, split-screen management; you're always watching both screens, deflecting the ball with the bottom paddle to send it up, then catching it with the top paddle to send it back down. Boss fights introduce more complex patterns, demanding even sharper coordination. It's a frantic, often overwhelming test of multitasking that eventually becomes a satisfying rhythm of controlled chaos.
