Game Overview

Die Springteufel—or "The Jumping Devils" if you don’t speak German—is one of those weird little Atari 2600 platformers that somehow only made it to PAL regions. You’re basically hopping across single-screen stages, dodging enemies and pitfalls with that classic Atari jank. It’s not as smooth as, say, Pitfall, but there’s something charming about how brutally simple it is.

First time I played, I kept overshooting jumps because the controls feel just slightly delayed—turns out you’ve gotta tap the joystick earlier than you’d think. The sprites are blocky even by 2600 standards, but the enemy designs have this goofy, almost crude look to them that kinda grows on you. Definitely more of a curiosity than a must-play, but if you’re into obscure retro stuff, it’s a neat peek at how different regions got their own weird spin on early platformers.
