I picked up Digimon Battle Spirit on the Game Boy Advance back in 2003, a game developed by Dimps and published by Bandai. It was one of those portable titles that felt right at home on the GBA, offering quick, energetic battles during a time when the system was full of action and RPG hybrids. The game draws from the Digimon Tamers anime, letting you step into the shoes of familiar characters and their digital partners.

You control a chosen Digimon fighter, moving through side-scrolling arenas to battle opponents one-on-one. The main goal is to defeat your rival by depleting their health bar, but the real focus is on collecting spirit orbs that burst out when you land hits. These orbs fill your spirit gauge; once full, you can digivolve into a more powerful form temporarily. Matches are fast and chaotic, with special moves lighting up the screen and constant pressure to attack or evade. It feels like a condensed, frantic brawler where every second counts.
