Toss your units across the battlefield, stack enemies for combo attacks, and watch as a lucky Geo Cube turns the tide—this is SRPG chaos crammed into a DS cartridge. The touch controls work, but you’ll probably mash buttons while your healer suddenly becomes a god thanks to some ridiculous Demon Gadget.
Game Overview
Disgaea DS takes the already ridiculous strategy RPG from the PSP and squeezes it onto the tiny screens of the Nintendo DS—somehow making it even more chaotic. The dual-screen setup actually works surprisingly well here, letting you check stats or menus without pausing the action. And yeah, you can poke at things with the stylus, but I mostly stuck to buttons because old habits die hard.
The real fun comes from the new tweaks, like Geo Cubes that buff your team in weird ways or Demon Gadgets that can randomly skyrocket a unit’s level mid-battle (one minute your healer’s struggling, the next they’re obliterating everything). Plus, you can recruit classic characters from the first two games, including Overlord Zetta, who’s basically the definition of overkill.
Multiplayer’s a nice touch if you’ve got a friend who’s equally obsessed with grinding levels for hours. Just don’t blame me when you lose track of time drawing geo symbols on the touchscreen.
