Dodgeball came out for the Super Nintendo in 1991, developed by Technos Japan, the same folks behind the Kunio-kun series. It was part of that early wave of SNES sports games that leaned more into arcade-style fun than strict simulation, a time when developers were still figuring out what the new hardware could really do.
You control one of several international dodgeball players, moving your character around a single-screen court to pick up balls and throw them at the opposing team. The main goal is to eliminate all the players on the other side by hitting them, while avoiding their throws. Key mechanics include catching incoming balls to protect yourself, charging up your throws for more power, and using special super throws that can take out multiple opponents or even set the ball on fire. The pacing is fast and a bit frantic, with the difficulty ramping up noticeably against later teams. It feels like a silly, chaotic playground game brought to life with just enough structure to keep you playing.
