Game Overview

Double Dribble came out for the NES in 1987, developed by Konami. It was one of the early basketball games on the system, arriving at a time when sports titles were still figuring out how to translate real action into pixelated fun. You could pick from a handful of teams, each with their own court and slightly different play styles, which felt like a decent amount of variety back then.

You control a team of five players, moving up and down the court, passing and shooting to outscore your opponent. The main goal is simple: win the game. Its standout features include the ability to perform special slam dunks, which trigger a brief, dramatic cutscene showing the basket up close, and the three point shot, which requires good timing to land. The pacing is fast, with games that donโ€™t drag on, though the AI can be tough on higher settings. It feels satisfying when you nail a long shot or pull off a flashy dunk, even with the blocky graphics.
