Doukyuusei 2 is one of those SNES games that makes you wish you'd discovered it back in the '90s. You start as a transfer student—pick your stats, your look, and suddenly you're thrown into this pixel-perfect high school life. The first time I played, I spent way too long just wandering the halls, eavesdropping on conversations, and realizing I should've studied more before that pop quiz.
What really sticks with me is how alive the school feels. Girls giggle in groups by the shoe lockers, the basketball team practices after class, and if you skip cram school too often, your mom actually nags you about it. The dating stuff is fun (confessing under the cherry tree never gets old), but half the charm is just existing in this little world. It's got that early Sims vibe where small choices snowball—help a classmate with homework, and suddenly you're invited to the festival together.
Fair warning: the menus are very much a product of 1997, and the romance routes can be oddly specific (bring the right girl melon bread three Tuesdays in a row, or whatever). But that janky, earnest quality is why it's still so lovable. If you miss when life sims were more about vibes than min-maxing relationships, this is your game.
