DreamWorks Super Star Kartz came out on the Nintendo DS in 2011, published by Activision. It was part of that wave of licensed kart racers that tried to capture some of that Mario Kart magic, but with a roster full of characters from different DreamWorks movies. It felt very much like a product of its time on the DS, a system packed with these kinds of crossover games.

You pick a character from films like Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, or Madagascar and race them on tracks themed around those worlds. The main goal is just to finish first, using items you pick up from boxes to attack other racers or defend yourself. A couple of the mechanics include performing stunts off ramps to get a temporary speed boost and using a character specific special move, like a powerful charge or a screen clearing attack. The races are generally chaotic and not super difficult, with the AI sometimes feeling a bit unpredictable. It’s a simple, silly game that doesn’t take itself seriously at all.
