Duck Hunt came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1984, developed and published by Nintendo. It was one of the early light gun games for the console, a simple concept that took advantage of the hardware in a way many other titles didn't. You didn't need a complex controller; you just needed to point and shoot.

You control the targeting reticle with the NES Zapper, a plastic light gun you point at the screen. The main objective is to shoot ducks as they fly across the sky before they can escape. Each round, one or two ducks appear, and you have three shots to take them down. If you miss all your shots, the dog pops up from the grass, laughing at you. The pacing is quick, with rounds lasting only a few seconds, and the difficulty increases as you progress, adding more ducks and faster flight patterns. It feels immediate and physical, a direct test of your aim and reflexes.
