Play Dune II - The Battle for Arrakis (Europe) Online

You command armies across the dunes, juggling spice harvesters and sandworm attacks while each faction’s unique units force totally different playstyles—Atreides’ methodical pushes, Harkonnen’s raw firepower, Ordos’ dirty tricks. That clunky cursor control? You’ll curse it at first, then master it like a Fremen reading the desert.

Game Overview

Dune II on Genesis is one of those rare cases where the console port actually improves on the PC original. Yeah, the controls take some getting used to—you're selecting units one at a time with a cursor instead of mouse-clicking—but after a few missions, you start moving whole armies like a pro.

What really hooked me was how different each faction feels. Atreides get those slow but beefy sonic tanks, Ordos mess with poison gas and sneaky tactics, and Harkonnen? Pure brute force. Spice harvesting still makes me nervous—leave your harvesters alone too long and bam, sandworm snack.

It's janky by modern RTS standards, but there's something satisfying about building up a base in the middle of the desert and watching your forces roll out. Just don't expect to win on your first try against the Harkonnen.
