Dynasty Warriors Advance came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2005, developed by Omega Force and published by Koei. It was part of that wave of handheld adaptations trying to capture the feel of bigger console games, scaled down for on-the-go play without much fuss.
You pick a character like Zhao Yun or Sun Shangxiang and hack through hundreds of enemy soldiers across small, grid-based battle maps. The main goal is to capture enemy bases and defeat enemy officers to turn the tide of each stage. Combat relies on simple combos and special Musou attacks that clear the screen; you also collect temporary stat boosts and weapon upgrades from defeated foes. The pacing is fast, though the enemy AI can feel repetitive after a while. It captures that mindless, cathartic energy of mowing down crowds with just enough strategy to keep you focused.
