Elvira II: The Jaws of Cerberus is one of those weird, clunky, but weirdly charming Amiga RPGs where you wander through a horror movie studio that’s somehow become real—full of actual monsters, because of course it has. You start by picking a class (warrior, thief, sorcerer, or… something else? I went sorcerer and regretted it immediately when a skeleton punched me in the face).

Movement’s all point-and-click, and combat’s just clicking on monsters until they die (or you do). The real fun is the spell system—Elvira gives you her spellbook, and you’ve gotta scrounge up ingredients to brew potions and cast magic. Problem is, half the time you burn through rare items on a useless spell and then realize you needed that bat wing for a puzzle later. Classic.

It’s janky, the dialogue is basically just grunts and one-liners, and the first-person view makes everything feel like you’re stumbling through a haunted house. But there’s something about the mix of horror camp and RPG mechanics that makes it weirdly addictive. Just save often—Cerberus isn’t messing around.
