Espial came out for the Atari 2600 in 1983, published by Telesys. It was one of those games that tried to do something a little different on the system, offering a space shooter with a focus on exploration and resource management rather than just constant action. It fit right in with the era's experimental spirit, even if it didn't become a household name.

You pilot a small ship inside a large, multi-screen mothership, navigating through tight corridors and open bays. Your main goal is to destroy the mothership's core by firing missiles at it, but you first need to find and collect those missiles from storage rooms scattered throughout the vessel. You'll dodge enemy fighters, use your laser to clear a path, and carefully manage your limited missile supply. The pacing is deliberate, requiring you to memorize layouts and plan your route, and the difficulty comes from the confined spaces and persistent enemies. It feels tense and strategic, like a careful hunt in a hostile maze.
