Game Overview
Eye of the Beholder II: The Legend of Darkmoon came out in 1991 for the Amiga, published by Strategic Simulations, Inc. and others. It was part of that wave of first-person dungeon crawlers that really pushed what home computers could do with 3D environments and tactical role-playing. You could tell it was built for players who wanted something deeper than the average arcade port.
You control a party of adventurers, moving screen by screen through the twisting halls of a vast underground temple. Your main goal is to explore the dungeon, solve environmental puzzles, and survive frequent monster encounters using real-time combat. The game uses AD&D 2nd Edition rules, so managing your party’s classes, spells, and equipment is essential. There’s no automap, so you’ll need to draw your own or rely on memory. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty is high, especially when dealing with traps and resource management. It feels tense and immersive, like you’re really leading a group through an unpredictable, dangerous place.
