So you’ve just taken down Xanathar in the first game, and now Khelben’s dragging your party back into trouble—this time near the creepy Temple Darkmoon. People are vanishing, there are shallow graves everywhere, and of course, it’s up to you to figure out why. Classic dungeon-crawling setup, right?
If you played the first Eye of the Beholder, this one feels instantly familiar—same first-person maze navigation, same real-time combat where you’re frantically clicking to swing swords or cast spells. No automap, so good luck remembering which twisting corridor leads back to safety. The AD&D rules mean your fighters tank, your thieves pick locks (badly, at low levels), and your mages run out of spells at the worst possible moment.
You can import your old party or roll fresh characters, and the higher level cap means your crew actually feels powerful by the end—if they survive. The monsters hit harder, the puzzles get trickier, and there are way more illustrated cutscenes this time, which was a big deal back then. Just don’t expect the game to hold your hand when you stumble into a room full of enemies with no spells left.
It’s pure ’90s dungeon-crawling nostalgia, for better or worse.
