Tiny pixel players, wild tackles—just tap sprint and launch hopeful crosses toward Beckham’s magic feet while blocky text screams "GOOOAL!" at you. Pure GBC football madness.

F.A. Premier League Stars 2001 came out for the Game Boy Color in 2001, published by THQ. It was part of that wave of handheld sports games that tried to capture the feel of the Premier League on a small screen, back when pixel art and chiptune crowd noise were the norm. You could pick from all the top English clubs of the time, each with their real players, though the graphics left plenty to the imagination.
You control a team of players, passing and shooting your way toward the opponent's goal. The main objective is to win matches, and eventually the league, by outscoring the computer or a friend via link cable. Signature mechanics include through balls to split defenses, sliding tackles that often draw fouls, and timed shots that require good button precision. The pacing is quick, almost frantic, with end-to-end action and a difficulty that spikes when the AI decides to press. It feels like a stripped down, fast version of football where every possession counts.
