You control one of three fighters, Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard, or Joe Higashi, each with unique moves, as you battle through a series of opponents in a tournament. The main objective is to defeat all challengers and win the title. Two signature mechanics define the combat: the two-plane system lets you dodge attacks by jumping between the foreground and background, and special moves require precise joystick and button combinations to execute. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can be punishing, especially during later matches. It feels responsive and deliberate, with every punch and kick carrying real weight.
